High School Students Participate in the National Speech and Debate Tournament
Raytown High School and Raytown South High School students participated in the virtual National Speech and Debate Association (NSDA) Tournament, June 13-19, 2021.
Raytown High School Talking Bluejay Presley Stewart made it to the quarterfinal round in Spoken Word Poetry. Raytown High School Talking Bluejays Judy Batts, Riley Harris, and Shawn Hulen made it to the first elimination round in Extemporaneous Debate.
Talking Bluejay Tochi Ihekona also participated in the national tournament.
Raytown South High School student Breanna Bonner scored in the top 60 of 325 competitors in the Informative Speaking event. Raytown South High School student Ahmea Parham also made it to the elimination rounds and finished in the top 30 percent of competitors in the Poetry event.
Raytown South High School student Trinity Houts and Caleb Dillion also participated in the national tournament.
The Raytown High School Speech and Debate team is coached by Zachary McGee and Taylor Ambrosi. Raytown South High School Speech and Debate team is coached by Maureen Thomas and assistant coaches Michael Daniels, Helene Slinker, and Austin Steeley.
