Raytown South High School Track Athletes Place in State Meet
Student-athletes from Raytown South High School represented the District at the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) State Track and Field meet in Jefferson City on May 28.
Zaya Akins earned three state championship titles including the 100m Dash, 200m Dash and 400m Dash. Throughout the course of the season, Akins set new school records in the 100m Dash, 200m Dash and 400m Dash. Additionally, her times of 11.56 in the 100m Dash, 23.95 in the 200m Dash, and 54.29 400m Dash were the best in Missouri in all classes of competition. Zaya's 400m Dash is ranked #20 in the nation out of all high school athletes and #1 nationally out of the 2023 graduating class.
Quinton Rowell earned sixth place in the 400m Dash.
Ja’Nyiah Davis earned fifth place in the high jump.
The 4x100m relay team of Nia Shields, Markayla Lottie, Tachelle Thomas, Zaya Akins also qualified for the state meet.
Zaya Akins, Ja'Nyiah Davis, and Quinton Rowell also earned All-State honors.
