Herndon Career Center Instructor Earns Construction Educator Award
Herndon Career Center (HCC) Construction Technology instructor Jim Oliver earned one of two Partner in Construction Educator awards at the Kansas City Chapter of the National Institute for Construction Excellence’s (NICE) fifth annual awards luncheon. This is the first year for the award that recognizes educators who guide students toward careers in construction and skilled trades.
“Mr. Oliver is focused on helping students learn what they need to know to be successful beyond high school. He sets high expectations but provides the necessary supports for students to meet those expectations,” said Herndon Career Center Director Dr. Cheryl Reichert. “He ingrains industry expectations throughout his instruction which ensures students have the necessary skills while helping to meet the workforce needs within the industry.”
NICE was established in 1998 to create construction education programs that increase awareness of careers in construction, engineering, architecture, contracting and the skilled trades. We provide teachers with career tools to educate students in construction and skilled trades.
Mr. Oliver has been an instructor in the Raytown School District for nine years. As part of the award, Mr. Oliver received an edged chrome plated shovel with his name and a $1000 check.
