Students for Grow Your Own Program
The Raytown School District selected three high school students for its fifth cohort of the Grow Your Own teacher recruitment program.
Grow Your Own program recipients from Raytown South High School include Kennedy Lea who plans to major in elementary education at Northwest Missouri State University and Cecily Wells who plans to major in early childhood education at the University of Central Missouri.
The Grow Your Own program recipient from Raytown High School is Sarah Pitts who plans to major in early childhood education at the University of Missouri - Kansas City.
Each year, students planning to pursue careers in teaching are selected for the program and receive a total of $10,000 over a four-year period. Upon successful completion of a degree in education and certification, each recipient will be hired as a teacher in the district.
As long as the recipient completes four years of teaching in the Raytown School District, they will not have to pay back the loan.
